Fallout 76I thought I was going to finish up writing early today and jump into the Fallout 76 beta, but it turns out,Despite my pre-order of the game, I was hit with a few different errors trying to get into the beta this morning. The first was an endless loading screen that would appear when I entered my Bethesda.net username/password wrong that I had to force quit to escape. Then there was another error message when I finally got my login info right:“Login failed. This account lacks the required entitlements.”I thought this may have been a problem with my pre-order not registering and failing to give me beta access, but that’s not what’s going on.Turns out the structure of the Fallout 76 beta isa bit unusual. Bethesda is, at least to start, the first of which does not start until tonight at 7 PM ET, and it will run until just 11 PM ET where the game will go down and we’ll have to wait for the next session, presumably the next day.
So all these errors are not because you don’t have access, but because Bethesda isn’t putting the beta live until tonight. Fallout 76This is definitely an unusual way to set up a beta. Most multiplayer betas simply open the floodgates at a certain time and let the beta run for a few days. Usually when you see specifically scheduled “sessions” like this, it’s for game journalists who have early copies of the game. The reason being there are only a few dozen or hundred journalists reviewing a multiplayer game early, so sessions are set up to make sure enough people are there for a session. But for this beta, where millions are going to be playing, that isn’t an issue, and it seems that Bethesda is probably doing this to stress test the servers instead.Given how short this window is, I wouldn’t be surprised if day one ends up being a total bust here.

While some betas are little more than early previews of a game, Bethesda’s Fallout 76 beta very much does seem to be about the company technically testing the game in the run-up to launch, promising lots of bugs and probablylots of server issues as well.At 7 PM the game will be jammed with players trying to get in, but if you didn’t know that you were going to have to wait until that time today, I wouldn’t blame you. Most information you can find about the beta simply says it starts today. The error messages you get in game give you no information about when the beta is actually supposed to start, and instead makes it seem like you’ve done something wrong. But yeah, that’s where we are. No beta until tonight, and we’ll see if it manages to work then.Follow me, and. Read my new sci-fi thriller novel, available now in print and online. I also wrote.
