Sound From Headphones And Speakers
Hi,I have the following problem with Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit: When headphones are connected to the headphone jack, the laptop speakers will not disable. The laptop recognizes headphones (test sounds are coming through) and they can be used for communications, e.g. The laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver's latest version. On the other hand, sound from softwares and games are coming from the speaker.According to me, the problem would be that it is not possible to switch headphones as default device in control panel - sound.See the Attached pic, even if i click ' Default Device' for headphones it does nothing, there is no tickmark even after clickingPls Help!Apparently, This problem was caused after my motherboard and heatsink were replaced by dell service guy due to overheating. I would just like to say that this problem has still not been fixed and is a massive annoyance. I am on the same laptop (a Dell Inspiron N5010) and I cannot set my headphones to be the Default device no matter what I do. I have tryed trouble-shooting and using FixIt as well as googling the entire net and this is the only thing I could find about it.

May 18, 2010 In both XP and Vista I could have the speakers and the headphones plugged in together, both playerd noise, and I could use one or the other by plugging them into the front and back audio jacks. This enables me to play games during day with speakers, and then at night with head phones, and no reaching round under my desk to remove cables. Solutions for No Sound after Unplugging Headphones. There are various factors that cause sound not working in Windows 10 when you unplug your headphones from the jack port. The no sound issues may be caused by some software or programs, incorrectly audio configuration, disabled services, faulty sound drivers, etc. When I mute all sound using the master volume control, playback continues through my headphones, but not my main speakers. This is getting weird. On top of that, my headphones are not listed under 'playback devices'. EDIT 2: New symptom. Sound isn't coming through the jack at all anymore. I'm assuming hardware failure.
Can someone please find a way how to fix it because I find it hard to believe how hard it can be to set headphones as the default device when so many others do it with ease. I use headphones (Corsair 1500) on one of my rigs (for gaming). It appears to me that to use them in a particular program they do not have to be default. The program should be coded to detect the headphones and give you a choice of which output dievice you want to use. Software that is not coded (written) to accopmplish this just continues to use your default device. For instance, I have not tried this but this is what I would expect with say Win Media Player. You would have to set the headphones to the default device and when you call up WinMedia it would play via the default device. Headphones or speakers in windows 7, Can't have both?Looked over the other questions, nothing seemed close. My machine was dual boot, XP and Vista ultimate, now XP and Windows 7. In both XP and Vista I could have the speakers and the headphones plugged in together, both playerd noise, and I could use one or the other by plugging them into the front and back audiojacks. This enables me to play games during day with speakers, and then at night with head phones, and no reaching round under my desk to remove cables. Now I am using windows 7 and amongst the many other problems I have with it, I can't play with speakers or headphone until I have gone through a silly lot of clicking to disable one or choose the other as default. Why has this been changed in windows 7 afterVista, it seems an utterly pointless logic. I can turn my speakers off with the power button and get the headphones working. Now I am either. So my brand new IR head phones are wasted.
