Difference Between Closed And Open Hi Hat
Any machine and just modulate the decay time. If you use the Hi-Hat Basic machine you can modulate/P-lock both the transient and/or tail decay. I am not into too much realism when programming the Rytm, but the difference in open/closed hats sounds usually depends mostly on different decays.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get continuous hi hat control (as opposed to simply open/closed) out of an Alesis ControlPad?I'm using my ControlPad to trigger Superior Drummer 2.0. I've got a Roland FD8 pedal hooked up to the hi hat input on the ControlPad, and it will give me fully open and fully closed sounds, but nothing in between.
My understanding is that the ControlPad is only set up to use the hi hat controller as an on/off switch - but is there some way to add continuous control functionality? Say, through software, firmware, a sysex?I'd be grateful for any help. I'm new to e-drumming and MIDI, so I might need to be walked through the techie stuff slowly. Thanks! I also tried to use the Control Pad with BFD lite but it didn't seem to respond anywhere equally as well in this respect.I am interested in purchasing Superior Drummer 2.0.In your experience how well does it respond to sticking/velocity articulations and such using the Control Pad.
Have you tried Addictive drums with the Control Pad? If so does Superior 2.0 respond similarly as well to it?BTW - I am using a simple Keyboard sustain pedal for Hi-hat, due to the fact as I understand it that Addictive drums does not respond well at all to the FD-8. However have you tried using E-Drum monitor with the FD-8? Lots of sensitivity. That said, I had two problems: one is that the ControlPad doesn't have continuous control for the hats; the other is that when playing a continuous eighth-note pattern on the hats, for some reason the ControlPad didn't transfer all my bass drum hits. Once every bar or two, it would just ignore a note coming from the bass drum input. (I'm using a Roland bass drum trigger. Don't remember the model number.) I don't know if that's a problem with the ControlPad itself, or a problem with the way the ControlPad interacts with Superior 2.0. I'd guess it's the former. I solved the problem by adding a Trigger iO to my setup and running the bass drum trigger through it.

Encrypt data to secure contents greyed out. I still use the ControlPad for all my cymbals, and there are no more dropped notes.I've never tried Addictive Drums, so I can't comment on that software. I will say that Superior is easy to use and sounds unbelievably good.Good luck! I've got the Control Pad MIDI'd up to my Akai MPC 1000. I've created a great multisampled kit, but I can't get the hi-hat to work as I'd like it to. I plugged in a keyboard sustain pedal for the hat and an external piezo trigger pad for the input one. I set it up so that the pedal triggers a closed hat sound and the pad triggers the open. The problem is the pedal only plays that sound once, and even when it's held down, the pad continues to play the open hat sound.is this because it is on/off only?
Would a continuous midi interface like the trigger i/o make the difference? Thanks much,J.
ControlPad vs. Trigger i oThe ControlPad is on/off only, so you won't be able to get continuous hi-hat control out of it.
Your hats can be open or shut, but nothing in between.)The Trigger i o has continuous control. I haven't been able to tweak my settings using the i o and Superior Drummer 2.0 to my complete satisfaction yet, but then again I haven't really sat down and dedicated an afternoon to it. It might well be possible with some work put into it; I'm sure others would know better than I do.Good luck! Oh, wait-I misread your post. If I understand you, you're saying that you want to be able to hit your external pad and get an open hat sound when the pedal is up and a closed sound when the pedal is down.
Am I right? You should be able to do this with the ControlPad. Is your sustain pedal plugged into the hat input on the ControlPad? If so, it should modify your hat sound depending on whether the pedal is up or down. Some sustain pedals have two settings: on/off and continuous. (My keyboard sustain pedal has a physical switch located on the pedal.) If your pedal is set to the continuous setting, it might not work properly as an on/off hi-hat controller. Try switching to on/off and see if it makes a difference.I don't know anything about the Akai, so there may be settings in there that you need to tweak in order to make this work.Cheers,Paul.you're saying that you want to be able to hit your external pad and get an open hat sound when the pedal is up and a closed sound when the pedal is down.
Difference Between Open And Closed Hi Hat
Am I right?Exactly. But currently it isn't working like this. If I hit the pad (open HH) and then step on the pedal (more a super basic footswitch really) it does 'close' the hh. However, if with the pedal still down, I hit the pad again, it play the open hh sound again. I've set the MIDI note numbers to 44 and 46 at the Control pad and at the MPC, but something isn't right.Anyone else having success using an MPC as a Vdrum module?
